Whole30 Bacon Burger's

Hola senorita's!

I see a lot of new faces! Thanks Mama Laughlin for the shout out yesterday!

This weekend was a little crazy {what's new?}. Saturday, I pulled a muscle in my back. I literally thought I cracked a rib. I couldn't take a deep breath in and I had to hunch over when I walked. The Father-in-Law saved the day and brought me a heating pad.

Sunday was B's birthday party. {I'm still in denial that he is 5, by the way}. We had it at Poppa Rollo's in the arcade room. That was the easiest birthday party we've ever thrown. Loved it. I'm not all about stressing over a kid's party...or any party actually. I didn't even plan my own wedding. I wanted to go to Vegas. The Hub's thought I'd regret that, so we compromised and hired a wedding planner. Best.decsion.ever.

I digress.

Yesterday, I started The Whole30. It was recommended by my trainer. I was still having hella bad sugar cravings and we thought it would be a good idea to try this. They've had several people in their gym do it with amazing results.

Here's a little snippet from The Whole9 website:

"Whole9’s original program designed to change your life in 30 days. Think of it as a short-term nutritional reset, designed to help you restore a healthy metabolism, heal your digestive tract, calm systemic inflammation and put an end to unhealthy cravings, habits, and relationships with food."

You can't have any dairy, grains, anything with any kind of added sugar, or processed. So it's meat, veggies, and very little fruit. Basically, if you stick to the produce department and meat/seafood department of the grocery store, you're good.

Think of it as a stricter Paleo.

I was a little nervous at first but found several meal plans on Pinterest. We made our first meal last night and let me tell you, it was amazing. I could get used to this! Do you want the recipe? I figured. Here ya go:

Bacon Burgers
adapted from TGI Paleo's Baked Bison Burgers

{Serves 2-4}

Ingredients:
-1 lb ground beef
-1 egg
-1 small onion, diced
-1/2 cup of finely chopped mushrooms
-1 tsp sea salt*
-1 tsp black pepper*
-1 t homemade steak seasoning {this one is good}
-4 thick slices of bacon

Combine ground beef with egg, veggies, and seasonings.  Form into 4 burger patties. Make sure they’re not too flat.  Wrap each burger in a slice of bacon and secure with a toothpick.
*Honestly, you may not need the sea salt and pepper because it's already in the steak seasoning. We felt like it tasted a little salty and will probably forgo it next time!
Bake at 350 degrees, uncovered, for 30 minutes.

That's it. Easy freaking peasy ladies and gents.
If you're wondering, the veggies are easy to make up too. We make ours with broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, and cucumbers but you can use any veggie you please. Mix olive oil, a tiny amount of vinegar, and Italian seasoning in a shaker and pour over veggies. That's it.

29 more days of The Whole30 left and I'm ready for it!

I've got to go get ready for my 8:30 workout. Y'all have an amazing day!!

just found your blog recently....love to see the recipes! I've heard of the 30 day thing, just too scared to give up fruit! I recently rejoined weight watchers and am so excited that fruit is zero points, I find myself eating it way more than before...but probably veggies are a better pick! Looking forward to watching your journey with it!
